Description

Polish Symbolist art of the late 19th and early 20th century is a genre that has long been overlooked outside its country of origin. However, in its day its influence was felt throughout Europe. Published to accompany a display at Tate Britain in March-June 2009, this book will illustrate and explore the work of eight Polish artists who were leading figures in the Symbolist movement. Essays by both Polish and British experts on the period will examine the influence of the work of these artists on their British contemporaries and call for a reassessment of their importance in the story of the evolution of modernism in Europe. Publication coincides with the Polish Season in the UK, which runs from May 2009 to March 2010.
