Material Collage

This month’s theme is enhancing and learning about base concepts. We are searching for shapes and patterns around us, exploring colour and texture as well as finding an understanding of how our body relates in size and shape to our environment.

During this week students were occupied with material collage making. We used bits and pieces of material, different shapes and patterns to create colourful pictures. The children worked in groups of two on big sheets of cardboard. The material and its texture gives them a sensory experience and enhances fine motor skills by using their hands for cutting, pasting and using tools to apply the glue to the paper. Their creations were playful and exciting, utilising considerable colour and shape.
