On Thursday evening 3 November, David Krut Bookstore in Parkwood hosted a POETRY READING by writer, poet, photographer, voice artist, actor and film director GÉRARD RUDOLF at the exhibition opening of ENTANGLED by CLAIRE ZINN. This cultural collaboration of poetry by Rudolf reflecting on the works exhibited by Zinn, offered guests a glimpse of a multidisciplinary POETRY PROGRAMME planned for our bookstore in Parkwood in 2017.

Zinn’s exhibition of evocative monotypes (unique works on paper) explores a number of concepts, most strikingly the psychological endurance of war, which sometimes ventures into dystopian visions, such as the physical destruction of Johannesburg if an enemy were to conquer our city. The artist uses the concept of the entanglement of images, ideas and events, which is formally reflected in the layering of images, which invite the viewer to find subjective connections.

For me, entanglement sums up how everything becomes twisted and caught up together. Everything influences everything else – Claire Zinn
