In a village outside the city, young Lyra dreams of having a friend of her very own. So when she hears a knocking at her window and sees the face of a horse peering through the glass, she cannot believe her luck. But when a mysterious figure arrives to take the horse home to where he belongs, before she knows it, Lyra is whisked off to an unexpected world of adventure.

Mark Nicholas is a British author and illustrator who lives in Wales. He trained at the Cambridge School of Art, during which time he won both the Lara Jones Award and the inaugural Carmelite Prize.
