Karoo Roads is a collector’s treasure box of trips and tales gathered from more than a decade of research and rubber-on-the-road experiences, penned and photographed by two award-winning travel writers, Chris Marais and Julienne du Toit, who will introduce you to some of the loveliest, toughest, most creative and downright crazy characters, critters and cultures thriving in the Dry Country.

Chris Marais and Julienne du Toit are photo-journalists, writers, publishers and teachers operating from their home base in Cradock, Eastern Cape Karoo, South Africa.

Under the Karoo Space banner, they specialise in telling stories from the Heartland of South Africa. In the past 20 years they have travelled vast distances and built up a large network that spans more than 100 towns and villages in the hinterland. In their constant search for the narrative of the Karoo, Chris and Julie painstakingly recorded the lives of people who call this area home. On the way, they picked up a wealth of stories blended with lifestyle, historical, cultural and natural information – and no shortage of offbeat tales.
